Influenced by TikTok, the company said the social media platform, and the Gen Z consumers that love it are continuing to dictate summer 2021 fashion trends. And they’re bringing back the skort. It may not be the biggest trending search at present but Stylight said it’s an unexpected trend.

“Multiple TikTok videos reveal this ‘incredible’ skirt with shorts underneath… (Re)discovering this piece that is well-known to children of the 80s and 90s,” it said.

Stylight aded that “the internet is going crazy for this revolutionary piece”. And it cited Google Trends showing searches for the keyword ‘skort’ have increased by 62% since the beginning of May.

Importantly too, a lot of the activity Stylight is seeing is around Halara, the activewear brand “that offers cute (and comfortable) dresses and skirts with integrated shorts”. Google Trends data showed that searches for the label are up 300% since the start of May.

Meanwhile, clicks on tennis skirts, which also fit into the 90s athleisure category, spiked by 219% from May to June 2021 on international Stylight platforms.

Other items trending at the moment are ‘vintage dresses’, which have seen a 25% search rise since the Cannes Film Festival started, and ‘superstar sneakers’ for which searches have risen 317% since the premiere of the Gossip Girl reboot.
