Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 2 show disrupts NYFW schedule

Yeezy Season 2, the second collaboration collection from Adidas and Kanye West, will debut at New York Fashion Week on Wednesday, September 16 at Skylight Modern. The announcement of the show’s date and time happened last minute and has caused more than a stir for designers and attendees because of scheduling conflicts.

The Yeezy Season 2 fashion presentation will begin at 12:00pm at the same time as Nomad VII by Anne Bowen and Naeem Khan. Much like the first season, Yeezy Season 2 will feature a performance by Vanessa Beecroft.

Anne Bowen, the founder and designer behind Nomad VII by Anne Bowen, according to the American press, has moved her show to 12:30pm so it won’t directly compete with the Adidas presentation.

Bowen was quoted as saying; “Our show date has been scheduled for months and has been on the Fashion Calendar for weeks. We went through all the proper channels to make this a reality. And just yesterday we learned that Kanye West is having a show at the same time on the same date as ours. Kanye knows he is a media sensation and it is just not ethical to do this. It’s like we are David and he is Goliath. We have put our heart and soul into our show, and should not be stepped on like this.”

Bowen’s publicist claims that the brand had to re-invite press attendees and work to secure the same models and photographers they initially booked. The brand also says that they are in direct competition to Yeezy Season 2 since both brands present streetwear, unlike Naeem Khan, as he shows evening wear. Khan has not shared plans to reschedule his show.

Yeezy Season 2 is also being reported as a sole Kanye West project and not a collaboration with Adidas. According to the American press, the German sportswear brand will only sponsor the collection, which means that they will not produce the collection. Adidas will continue to work with West on the highly successful Yeezy Boost footwear.
