French luxury house Hermès announced this week the upcoming inauguration of its latest Australian store, opening in Melbourne on December 1, ahead of the busy Christmas shopping season.

Located in Melbourne's Chadstone shopping precinct, the 220-square-metre Hermès store is the second boutique to open in the Victorian capital and takes its design cues from the Melbourne city store, which opened in 2014 on Collins Street.

Like all Hermès stores worldwide, the latest Australian location was designed by Paris architecture agency, RDAI, helmed by Denis Montel.

Outside, Hermès Chadstone is fitted with a glass facade, bordered by a lacquered copper and terracotta coloured frame, allowing shoppers to view the store interior before walking in from outside.

Adjacent, the Chadstone shop window features the 'Pegasus In Flight' artwork by Australian artist Anna-Wili Highfield, commissioned for the store's official debut on Saturday.

Inside, the new store, which features the same mosaic found at the Parisian brand's Faubourg Saint-Honoré store, has been separated into three distinct spaces. The first area houses Hermès iconic silks, and perfumes and fragrances, as well as its men's and women's ready-to-wear collections.

The second displays Hermès quality-made leather goods and accessories, and at the centre of the store, watches and jewellery can be found.

Founded in 1837 by Thierry Hermès, the six-generation Hermès brand sells its collections today across 309 exclusive stores worldwide.

In Australia, Hermès is available in Melbourne (city and Chadstone), Brisbane, Sydney, and the Gold Coast, as well as online.
