The department store retailer, which had been slow to catch on to major developments such as selling online, is embracing this key channel and marked its debut with a trailer launched for International Women’s Day.

The company was founded in 1882 and said it has “empowered generations of women through the circus of life”. As well as celebrating its own anniversary, the new series, “celebrates the extraordinary achievements of some Britain’s most influential female trailblazers past and present from the last 140 years. These are the innovators of music, art, literature, science and fashion, who have defied convention, broken boundaries and pushed the outer limits of what is possible. They are the true influencers of their day”.

Each episode was written by author Hannah Jewell and “will take a deep dive into 10 pioneering women’s lives and lift the lid on the events that led to their towering achievements: tales of struggle and setback, love, loss and ultimately, extraordinary success. Every episode is a chapter of a storybook that could inspire anyone to realise their unique potential”.

First up is “the story of Titanic survivor and creator of the catwalk” Lucy Christiana. She was the woman behind the pioneering Lucile couture label.

The series goes on to feature “trailblazing women such as electronic music pioneer Daphne Oram, BAFTA and Emmy award winning actor and screenwriter Michaela Cole, and one of Britain’s youngest head chefs Ruth Hanson, amongst others”.
