Première Vision: international editions adapt to the markets

As it takes its place in Istanbul and is about to expand in New York, Première Vision is getting ready to take on Shanghai and Seoul, while the Sao Paulo edition has been put on stand-by due to the difficult economic situation the country is currently facing.

The decision was made early last week. Between a 2% decline in growth, a 9% inflation rate and the fall of the Brazilian real, the edition originally scheduled for 4 and 5 November was looking to be particularly challenging. "It would be collective suicide to go," summed up Guglielmo Olearo, Director of PV's international trade shows, to FashionMag.com.

"The local exhibitors know the difficulties. And European fabrics were already difficult enough six months ago. With the state of the real, few local buyers would have the means to purchase in Europe. We are going to study the new approaches since we were hit by the swiftness of this terrifying devaluation, that no expert saw coming."

One of the new approaches is that Première Vision will take on Asia in October. After putting the Shanghai trade show on standby at the beginning of the year, the organiser will be back with Première Vision Live on 15 and 16 October, in partnership with and parallel to Fashion Week. A few days prior, a similar event will take place in Seoul, on 12 and 13 October.

In New York, after having attracted a record number of 4,415 trade professionals for 306 exhibitors, the event is expecting some 375 exhibitors at its next edition, being held on 19 and 20 January. The textile offering will be expanded with ateliers, leather specialists and a section dedicated to denim. "We are really ready to invest even more in this market," said Guglielmo Olearo.

A success that the organiser is expecting to replicate in Istanbul, where the first two editions made such an impact on the regional suppliers that the next one is already on their calendars.

Some 160 exhibitors are expected for the show scheduled for 21 to 23 November, despite a less favourable economic situation than before, with the slowdown of the Russian market. However, an increased presence is expected from Iran, which Première Vision hopes to enter using Istanbul as the gateway.
