Online fashion e-tailer Boohoo is reportedly in ‘detailed discussions’ about taking over what has been marketed as the “largest empty warehouse in the UK”.

The 615,000 sq ft warehouse, located in Sheffield, was formerly occupied by printing firm Polestar before it collapsed with the loss of 600 jobs in 2016.

According to newspaper The Star, the takeover could create over 1,200 new jobs at the internet company, which specialises in clothing for 16-30 year olds.

The group expects its revenue for the current financial year to increase by 90% compared to the previous year, after seeing its sales double in the four months to 31 December.

Boohoo is now one of the largest fashion e-tailers in the UK, selling over 27,000 styles online. The company’s products are designed and sourced largely in the UK, and subsequently distributed globally from a warehouse in Burnley.

The online retailer admitted in June last year that it needed more warehouse capacity following stellar growth across its brands. BoohooMAN, PrettyLittleThing and Nasty Gal are also part of the group.

In June, it raised £50 million for a new automated “super-site”.
