Alexander Wang makes float promoting safe sex for NYC Pride

The designer has teamed up with Trojan to create a special float for the New York City Pride Parade promoting safe sex. The design of the float will mimic Alexander Wang’s famed party buses.

This will be the first time the designer has participated in Pride festivities. However, he says he’s been hoping to partner with Trojan on such a project for some time. The sleek, black float takes its inspiration from the black party buses the designer typically uses for his fashion show after-parties, and will feature stripper poles and a DJ booth.

Wang himself will ride in the float, which will be emblazoned with the safe-sex slogan “Protect Your Wang.” He hasn’t revealed yet who will join him in the float. Though he doesn’t consider himself an activist, the San Francisco native says he grew up enjoying the community of the city’s LGBTQ Pride Parades.

Many designers and brands have released collections in support of Pride in the past month. Converse, Urban Outfitters and Nichola Formichetti’s NicoPanda brand have all created collections honoring Pride, with many donating proceeds from the products to non-profits benefitting the LGBTQ community.

This year’s New York City Pride Parad will take place in Manhattan on June 25.
